Meningioma Masquerading as Acute Psychosis with Symptoms of Schizophrenia

*Assistant Professor, **Associate Professor, ***Resident, ****Professor and Head, Psychiatry Dept, MGM Medical College, Navi-Mumbai Abstract Brain tumours have been notorious for masquerading as psychiatric disorders. Psychiatric disorders like acute psychosis, schizophrenia, depression, mania and panic disorders have been described to be associated with brain tumors. We had a case of a patient who presented with psychotic symptoms of delusions of reference and delusion of persecution and auditory hallucinations with assaultive behavior and disturbed biological functions. In view of late onset of psychotic symptoms and urinary incontinence, a consultation with physician was obtained. His MRI imaging revealed presence of meningioma. Literature is reviewed and discussed. It is suggested that a detailed physical and neurological examination be performed in all psychiatric cases with late onset psychiatric symptoms, atypical and neurological symptoms. Imaging may be recommended in patients with neurological signs and symptoms such as incontinence, seizures, headaches, disorientation and rapid deterioration.
